Hi everybody,
I'm Giacomo and I'm moving to Belo Horizonte in a few days…
I'm from Italy but I spent the last 2 years in England working for an English company. Then I decided to move back to Italy and I found a job in Milan, but after 4 weeks there my boss told me that I have to work in a project in Brazil and therefore I'm going to relocate again! Which is good because I love to visit other Countries and experience different cultures and lifestyles 
I hope to meet new people in BH to share interests, do something together and have a chat sometimes!
I've just started to learn Portuguese but it will take me time to be able to have a conversation, so for the moment I can speak English or Italian.

On behalf of the entire Expat-blog Team, welcome on board and welcome to Brazil.
Having lived there myself for several years I know you'll love Belo Horizonte. Some of the 'must-sees' are the Mercado Central, Open air artesans market every Sunday morning on Av. Alfonso Pena and Central Park. The Belo Horizonte Zoo is really super too.

Hi Giac,
Welcome! And I am sure your Italian will assist you in learning some Portuguese. All the latin languages are similar. I know Spanish fluently and can tell you that it has helped me read and write Portuguese a lot. Speaking it, not so much.

I'll add to the 'welcomes'!
The foreigner community is small in Belo Horizonte but is growing. To meet other foreigners and Brazilians I'd suggest you check out Minas International. This is a not-for-profit group that was founded in 2009 to connect English speakers living, working and doing business in Minas Gerais. Our community has over 25 countries represented and quite a few folks from Italy (and not only the ones transferred here to work at Fiat! 
Minas International holds regular events and get togethers. In fact, this coming Tuesday (29 October) we are having a Quiz Night at a cool bar in the Savassi area. This is gonna be great fun!! To get the details CLICK HERE to go the page on the Minas International website.

On behalf of the entire Expat-blog Team welcome to the blog and to Brazil. Having lived in BH for several years myself I know you'll love it. I'm sure you'll soon make lots of new friends both on the blog and in your travels about the city too.
I'm not sure if they still have services in the English language, but when I lived there the Igreja Batista de Lagoinha held a Sunday afternoon service for English speakers. It was a great place to meet expats. I don't know your religious views, but you might want to give them a phone call and find out. Their information lines are: (31) 3429-9450 or (31) 8793-2452.
Just a quick suggestion for fun, inexpensive things to do in Belo Horizonte - visiting the Mercado Central anytime is always fun; Sunday morning the open-air Artisan Fair on Av. Alfonso Pena is really exciting; a peaceful stroll through the Parque Municipal on Alfonso Pena too... feed the fish and ducks in the lagoon, watch the kids on the rides; make a picnic lunch and go out to the Zoological Park in Nova Pampulha, it's spectacular and you'll get to know about a lot of the Brazilian flora and fauna, it's a nice spot for a picnic in the shade too.
