I get into Rio about once a month and am planning on trying to organize some kind of Expat-blog Meet-up in the first half of this year. I will keep everybody posted.

a great way to meet people and practice your Portuguese is the meetup group "learn Portuguese - Aprenda inglês". It is a group of gringos and Brazilians meeting every Monday at 19:00 at the beach in Leme. See you there.

thanks for the information, I live in the favela at Leme, will be good to meet everyone, is been bit struggling so far especially for me to come alone here.

If you want study more Portugues for short times  and cheap you can check school: Casa do Caminho language centre  at Rua Farme do Amoedo in Ipanema . Very small school but all staffs speak english .and the money your pay for study will help poor children ...sorry i forgot the add but you can check the web side : www casa do caminho language centre .
Monday afternoon they have Beach voleyball for pratice Portugues and sport ( free  at Post 8 in Ipanema beach
Tues portugues movie cheap ticket
Wed : samba class cost 20$ real
....Favela tour
The school can help you find room for rent or roommate also

I will be in Rio 2nd week of August until end of the month. Will you still be there by that time? Its good if we can meet. You must be very familiar with Rio by that time I believe . So you can show me around.
