Hi I'd like to move to Malta and want to know the job market for chinese there. Is it necessary to know Maltese?

Armand

Hi and welcome to Expat.com SammyC!

Maybe you could tell a bit more about you.
In what field do you want to work?

Armand

Hi Sammy,

welcome to the forum.

If you are a Chinese speciality cook or an IT specialist you will probably find work and get a work permit for one year at a time.

If not you most probably will not get a work permit and not be allowed to stay.

It would be easier to answer your question if you give a few more details about your qualifications and what kind of work you are looking for.

Cheers
Ricky

Thanks Ricky and Armand.
As I get married with a Maltese, I think I am entitled to work in Malta.
I have worked in Financial industry for many years, bank and insurance. I was graduated in Tourism Management and Training and can speak in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
In fact, I have no idea about the job market, esp for a Chinese in Malta. I would like to work as Customer services and administration.
Thank you for your advice.

Hi Sammy,

when you are married to a Maltese or EU citizen you enjoy the same rights as an EU citizen regarding the job market so you won't need a work permit.

That will make things easier.

I would think that you can utilize your Chinese language skills in the tourism industry or in other sectors.

Financial industry could also be interesting as Malta hosts many companies dealing with funds and offshore banking and other financial things.

Cheers

Hi Sammy,

You should contact etc (Employment & Training Corporation) in Malta and they can help you with all the work permits and even tell you what jobs are avaliable.

Here are their contact details:

there are also several recruitment agencies in Malta like Pentasia who can help you find a good job.

Nin hao,
There is also an active Malta-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, that fosters trade between Malta and China.
Those companies that are members of the Chamber are probably also liaising regularly with Chinese suppliers, partners or customers.
They would probably value a native Mandarin / Cantonese speaker, reader, writer on their teams in Malta.
If not, they may value a contract resource they can call on as needed from time to time.
A Chinese trade delegation recently visited SmartCity Malta in Kirkara.
Good luck.

You can always try your luck and contact the Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta (excelsior.com.mt). As far as I know it is owned by Chinese entrepreneurs.
Good luck.

The post you refer to is from eight years ago and the person concerned is not active on here any more
you would be better off starting a new topic.

First time here and didn’t check properly, thank you so much
