Hey can any one advise as to the documents required for AFM number especially in referece to AFM number is a resident and work permit a pre requisite for the same thanks a lot in advance !!!

Depends upon your status. If you are an EU citizen it's easy. You can get your AFM number by taking your passport along to the tax office and asking for one. We did it when we were still in a hotel. You don't need a residence permit.
If you're non-EU I believe you'l need a work permit - best go to the Tax Office early in the morning and get in line to ask their requirements for your case.
