Tax on dividends generated by US ETFs

Arielt11

Hello

I'm planning to fund my greece retirement by dividends generated from US ETFs.

The US is taxing the dividends with 15%.

Question- will I need to pay tax in Greece as well? How much will that be?

Is there anything else that I need to consider living in Greece from dividends?

Thanks

Sorry for my late response, I just saw that. No, if you have paid in US taxes you won't pay here. Btw in Greece it is 5% on dividends in case you continue to invest through Greece. :)

Are you sure about that?  Both the US and Greece taxes Golden Visa and FIP permanent residents ( who are tax residents ) - on ALL of their worldwide income.  Dividends are very much part of what is considered income in Greece and in the US, so where is the source of law or regulation that says in Greece you can earn dividends and not pay taxes on them?  Unless you are part of the 7% tax regime for pensioners or the 50% tax regime for freelancers, don't they have to pay just like Greek's do?  There are no special rules in Greece for those who have a US passport that I know of...  If you are a Greek tax resident and also a US citizen---Don't you pay Greek taxes on your dividends and then take the foreign tax credit on your us taxes?  You don't end up paying double, but you also don't get to write off dividends on either tax forms.  Did I misunderstand? I have to pay my first taxes this year.

My friend I just said that you pay only one time. So if you have paid taxes in US you don't pay again here for th same earnings.

Btw for citizens: stocks, etfs, bonds, some insurance contracts, selling a house etc here in Greece it is tax free. Dividends it is 5%. Crypto is still under development the law, but most likely it will end up 15%. If you are a company things change.
