Opening a bank account in Cameroon

Hi all,

is it difficult for expats to open a bank account in Cameroon ?

Which documents are required to open a bank account in Cameroon ?

How long does it take to open it ?

Is there any restriction for expats regarding the services (loans for instance)  ?

Which bank would you recommend ?

Thanks in advance for your participation,

Julien

If you have long stay resident permit in cameroon you can easily open your personal bank account. However, if you will need a loan, it is very difficult, unless you are employee of well established and stable company.

If you have all required documents, your account could be opened in few hours. You just need to visit the bank office, but you will need to wait for 2 or three weeks to receive you credit card or Debit Card. Internet banking is not well developed in Cameroon, however ATM is available and work very well.

to get the full documents required, it is good to approach the bank when you are in Cameroun. Basically, you will need:
- Proof of income (empoyment contract or last three months pay slip)
- Identification documents (your resident permit)
- residence address and localisation plan
- Passport sized picture
- Bank acount request form to be filled there.

Thank,

Thank you for this info, 123chr!

Which is better. To pay your salary in my bank in South Africa or to pay it in a bank ain Cameroon. For tax purposes.

Marius = If you work in Cameroon - then pay your money into a Bank in SA.  You will not be taxed if you are out of SA for 6 months and a day.

I do not trust Cameroon.... anything.

I want a saving  account in Cameroon
