using EU mobile phones in the US

attilah

Hi, Can anyone tell me if I arrive in the US with my own mobile phone/smart phone from the EU, will I be able to use it? I want to buy a US sim card at the airport and put it into my own handset, but I read on the internet that you cannot use EU phones in the US. I would be glad to hear from anyone who was in the same situation and has experience.

It's usually not a problem.  Just make sure the phone is not locked to a carrier, and verify whether it is on CDMA or GSM and make sure the sim you get in the USA is the same as your phone.

Also, I came over to the USA a few times with my EU phone with roaming access on Orange, and I didn't need to get a sim, roaming worked just fine.
