Accomodation

Written byMindaugason 29 April 2014

Living in Lithuania has one main principle: here are 4 very different seasons. Winter can be very cold and summer can be very hot so it is very important to choose appropriate housing.

Like in every country around the Globe, more money you have the better things you get.

If it is possible I do recommend to rent or buy new generation (after 2007) house or flat. Let me review this:

If it is a flat possibly you will get parking under the house, heating will be effective and cheap, house would be nice looking, everything should be clean and nice.

If it is a house, well, the situation is a bit different, you must be very careful getting a house here. Many people are saving money and use cheap materials for building.

Housing before 2007

There are many great buildings too, but you should remember that heating is going to cost more. Only few houses built in 2002-2007 had parking lot under the house. If the house is old (older than 2000) probably you will have a problems with a parking.

Old houses (some built even in USSR times) have many serious problems like bad sound and heat isolation, most of them requires renovation and repair.

I don't recommend to buy residential houses built after 2000.

Pricing: it very depends from size, year, area, facilities. In numbers: from $200 to $5000.

Heating in Lithuania is expensive. Water and electricity prices are normal (comparing with avg of EU).

Almost all houses have very fast and reliable Internet and TV (Lithuania is in TOP 10 world countries by Internet speed).

Markets are everywhere, in one area or even place you can find 3-8 markets. As well there are many supermarkets too. In one city you can find from 3 to 10 big super markets.

Education, health care, sport clubs: depends from the place, but I am sure that at the nearest 50 meters - 5 km you will find what are you looking.

A couple of websites where you can find ads for renting or buying accommodation:

Aruodas en.aruodas.lt
Domo en.domo.plius.lt
