Can you travel in Brazil just using your RNE

It been a interesting discussion about using the RNE for travel internationally. So I now wanted to see if using it just in Brazil was acceptable for airlines travel within Brazil. I am going to the airport next week did give the airline my passport number when buying the ticket. I will try just using my RNE to check in. I didn’t ask when booking the ticket if I could use my RNE.

When flying within Brazil, no one has asked for anything more than to see my CRNM, or "Registro Nacional Migratório". Remember, no new RNEs, or "Registro Nacional de Estrangeiros" are being issued, that program ended in 2017. If you use your passport number to purchase your ticket, I would be certain that it will be the document they want to see at the airport, It should be one or the other

06/05/23 I would not be away from home base in a country of which I'm not a citizen without my passport. But I'm on the risk-averse side.

@NewBrazil Just flew on Azul airlines found out a couple of things. When I bought my ticket they asked for my passport number over the phone. I didn’t say I had a permanent residence card so maybe next time. I will just try using it. The surprise to me at the airport we had done our checkin over the internet. We were just using carryon luggage. We didn’t even need to show any ID just our two seat conformation. Even though I brought my passport but it seem we didn’t need it. Also I found Azul plane seem new and the regular seats. When you tilted them back the seat slide forward giving you like a recliner chair. So you could even sleep quite a surprise. So I recommend you use Azul Airline for local trips.
