Overstay in rio

You can leave with no problems, payment is not due on departure. You can pay if you want to at that time, but its definitely due when you return in the future...if you are allowed too. 

This is why the law was changed because most people knew the maximum fine was R$800 if you overstayed by this amount of time. With R$10.000 as the maximum now, that hurts a lot more.

They will just stamp your passport with an overstay and tell you the amount you owe in the future.

Breaking the law has consequences, but luckily in this case they give you a pass to leave.

The Customs worker will just make you sign the Multa document and you pay when you want to come back to Brazil. They do not stamp your passport with an overstay, just the normal exit stamp

Just wondering, why so many people overstay? The laws can change but they are granted only a certain time to be in Brasil as well as the majority of other countries.
Yes Brasil will fine someone, but other countries deport you!

I think a lot of people just do not plan ahead, and therefore overstay or start looking for long term options when its too late.

With this R$100 a day fine, im sure overstaying is no longer an option for people that want to come back to brazil one day

If that seems petty to you and don´t deserve attention you´re mistaken. Smaller things become bigger things due to people being emboldened. Crimes repeated no matter the size influences other people to commit bigger crimes. Plenty of worse things are happening in the world already as you yourself mentioned that we don´t need anymore for our own detriment as governments throw harsher punishments like incarceration to deter "plenty of worse things happening in the world."

It´s so easy to mention a criticism if it doesn´t involve one´s country. I´m sure Ireland wouIdn´t be so happy if it happens there and I`m sure Norway does protect its borders even if you´re willing to stay in Svalbard!

Hi Janeblu,

If you don't have sources to pay the fine, you can request a tax exemption. It's not hard if you get some orientation. Everything will be fine.

If you leave the country with the fee, you MUST pay it to be able to request another visa.
The best option is to solve the fee before leaving. In this case apply the fee exemption that I'm talking about then you can leave or make your situation legal. I'm saying this because I've been through exactly the same situation as you and I had some help from a social company  that helped me over internet.
There are some layers in internet that "sells" some well paid solutions, you don't need them - really. However, having connections or influential people is always good.

I dont believe its required to pay the multa before requesting another type of Visa. I was able to get another type of visa even with an open multa on y tourist visa. Maybe the Brazilian Consulates use another system, but they did not mention it during my consulate visit

Hi Shayf, I can tell you about Brazilian policy because I've been working with this for several years.

Once you get a fine, there is two way to solve it.
1 - This is the easiest way. You should get your situation regular BEFORE leaving the country. In this case, is it possible to argue that you are not able to pay it (although is possible to be done by yourself, it's hard)
2 - If you have left the country after the fine was applied, then you have to pay for it. At the airport when you are leaving, the police will ask you to sign a paper that you are aware of the fine. After this, you have two options. One is paying the fine at the airport before leaving in local currency (Brazilian Reais), and that is it. The other option is taking the paper "bill" with you then pay it at the brazilian consulate in your country ( in this case you pay in local currency). 

Policia Federal and INTERPOL share information about VISA.
The fine value is up to R$10.000

In Brazil, we don't have a specific policy for extradition (until now). However, in the practice what happens is the same. If you arrive here without have paid the fee, I can't get in and the same company that you took the flight will arrange a seat in the next flight back to your country.
