Maybe it has to do with the closed tribal societies/structures some expats from far east are used to. Some people have a demanding manner of asking for help and I think it's because back home help would come unconditioned, hence no use to search for an answer when you can rely on others to provide it for you.

Interesting observation (although my experience has usually been the exact opposite-- Asians who are almost obsequious in their gratitude).

I think the idea of expressing exaggerated* thanks to those who provided help shares the same roots. The reason I've posted is because I've witnessed a few mind blowing situations in terms of providing and receiving unconditioned aid.
