i want to learn spanish

hello,

first of all i would like to ask a question which may sound stupid. Is spanish language a must when relocating to Barcelona for a short period (6 months)?

I would like to learn the language in a friendly way... (I dont want to attend classes) just sitting over a cup of coffee and have some chat/language exchange!

- in return i can teach Portuguese, french or english!!!

Claro que no ! Todo la gente gusta hablar ingles (tambien abuelos y abuelas) y como los franceses, los espanoles son muy fuertes en ingles. Todo la gente gusta que un ingles o americano habla siempre ingles en un pais entranjero...

Es demasiado dificil de decir "me gustaria un cafe solo". "I would like a coffee" toda la gente entiende.

Hi,
One good way to try and get a language exchange is to go to the language schools ( lots will be closed for August though) and ask them whether they can post up a request for an inter- cambio, a language exchange. There are people that take classes but want extra practice in a more informal environment. You could also place an ad in Metropolitan magazine - it´s a free magazine for English speakers that live in BCN it comes out at the beginning of every month and is available all over the city ( the easiest place to find it would be in English / Irish pubs)
