Expats of Portugal—people that came over through education…

Omumuabuike Churchill

How many people actually get work whilst studying that makes them eligible for work permit/visa? How difficult is it to get a job that ensures you don’t have to go back after your study?

Hi Omumuabuike Churchill,

in theory you can get a study visa and a little before you finish University you might apply for highly qualified jobs. If you get accepted then the company hiring you would take care of the visa process. However, I don't this that the realistic chances of achieving the above are very low.

In the old days this could have worked, especially  in the oil and energy industry.

Hi, Welcome.

If you want to stay in Portugal after you finish your studies you must have a job so you can switch to a Portugal work visa.

@nz7521137 what does a high qualified job entail? Does it depend solely on how much you make or is the nature of the job also a factor?

@nz7521137 there was a typo in your sentence that started with however. Please, can you make that clearer?

As you are from Nigeria any specialized role in the oil and gas industry comes to mind. Shell Nigeria moved lots of employees around the world and always helped with the visa.

Let's put it like this a fruit picker is a low-skilled worker.

An engineer is a high skilled worker.
