Getting a work permit as a foreign cook in Netherlands.

OHTEO

Hi everyone, I'm a 30-year-old cook living in South Korea.

I'm trying to move to Netherland and my first plan will be working-holiday visa to work there. But after one year, I need a work permit from the company (in this case it will be a restaurant) to keep working there.

If a company wants to hire foreign people, they need to prove that they couldn't find any worker for the same position from the jobmarket within the EU for five weeks. (as far as I googled)

My concern is, Is this condition possible to be satisfied, realistically? If not, do some companies try to take a detour to hire someone that they want to hire?

If there is anyone who successfully got a work permit as a foreigner in Netherland as a cook, please give me some advice.

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

If you are a specialist chef in a skill that is in demand and restaurants are looking for such staff, then that is when the work visa route you refer to is the way to go.  How to find them, my advice is to join something like LinkedIn and reach out to your colleagues who are already working in this field and get their advice on who is hiring and where.

If the above doesn't apply to you, then the Dutch relate/refer to your industry as Horeca; to get a job in the Netherlands doing this, you will need the professional diploma SVH (Stichting Vakbekwaamheid Horeca).  If you speak Dutch, perhaps you can achieve this (it's a college qualification), if not, then you will struggle.

I hope this helps.
