Yes it’s the law here that you have to register with the Tax Office even if you may not have to pay any tax.
This applies to all residents.

An online form is available to complete mandatory registration with the Inland Revenue.  Normally you receive a tax return in mid May for completion by 1st June. In our case, as we are in the eResidence 'self sufficient' category so my eID number is our tax reference number. I believe it is different if you are employed.
