Is Portomaso a nice area to live

mattb1982

Hey,

I'm going to be moving to Malta with my girlfriend and 6 month old son in a couple of weeks. I visited much earlier this year and loved Portomaso. I'm a little concerned that for the entire summer the area is totally full of drunken tourists shouting and singing all night. Any opinions on how it is to live there. We want to live in an area with maximum convenience for shops, supermarkets, gym, kindergarden, swimming pools, bars, restaurants, etc and are happy to pay the high end rents for places like Portomaso/Tigne Point if those places fit our needs.

Thanks,

Matt

I looked at Portomaso 2 years ago for the same reason and so glad we didn't move there.  Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice place to go for an evening meal or nice walk at weekends from Sliema to St Julians but for us it wasn’t the best place to live with a young child.  The nearest play park I believe is over at Pembroke.  Instead I rented an office there and opted to live in Sliema.  We originally chose Tigne Point and was nice for 2 years, your son will love the pool there (open from May to September and cost was around EUR 200 for the 3 of us), there is Tigne Piazza which is popular with the local children playing on their scooter/bikes and playing in the fountain, also a really nice childrens park for children of all ages.

Arkadia in Portomaso is great for food shopping but you’ll also find a good selection of supermarkets in Sliema, a really nice deli Meats & Eats, as well of plenty of shops/restaurants.

2 years on we’re glad we’re still in Sliema although we recently moved to Fort Cambridge which is more modern and newer of the 2 buildings – Tigne Point was beginning to become run down in the communal areas.

Good luck with the move.

Thanks for that excellent information. Very useful. I'm looking at Fort Cambridge as well now then. Seems there is a lot less available at Tigne Point from when I last looked back in January. Do you have any estate agent recommendations? I've been searching on franksalt.com.mt.

Laura Harron at Perry's or Michaela Tabone at Remax both based at Spinola Bay branch were both really helpful.
