Apartment in Mellieha

Some landlords, also ask for an upfront payment for the bills (water & electricity) for the 1st month.

Toon

id say that was a little out of order - how on earth can he possibly estimate what your usage is likely to be......?

You never heard about that toon?

To be honest, my landlord did not asked for a deposit for the bills but when I was searching for accommodation, I remember speaking with one lady from an agency (Remax), who told me that some landlords might request that.
Imagine you would pay 100€ for the bills in advance, when the real bills would come, you would only pay the difference. If the deposit was higher than the real bill, the balance would carry over for the following month.

I also don't agree with that but I'm just saying from what I heard previously.

normally one month rent up front plus one months rent as deposit and if thru an agent 50% of rent to the agent

That's 50% of one month's rent, usually.
Be very aware of the electricity issue.

Not upfront Mantonas - before you have even used anything - after a month maybe but to base an estimate you must have something on which to base it.

be very very careful of elec and water billing OK - sent you a PM

Agree with Toon, deposit and money for water and electric = WALK AWAY.
