TEFL in Malta

Am thinking of doing the TEFL (teaching English as a Foreign Language) course before we come over. Does anyone know what the availability is like for this kind of work?

Thanks :)

Hi scubadiver,

in the summer you will always find work as an English teacher for foreign students with a TEFL degree or even better , CELTA.

Most schools actually prefer 'real' native speakers if they can get them. Pay is around 10 € /hour. But in the winter it is much more difficult and many teachers work with very reduced hours.

Cheers
Ricky
Thanks Ricky
What do you actually mean when you say 'real' native speakers?
English English, not Maltese English
Or even American English
You said it George -))))
Taynks ....
You will also need to have an A level or TELT qualification in order to get a teaching licence in Malta.

:D
Now is the time to get out here as busy season is starting.  There's a new school called maltalingua opening in St Julian's looking for qualified teachers.  You'll need (minimum) 120 hour tefl course, or even better, CELTA.
Hi David,

welcome to the forum.

Yes, today was their first day. I've heard many positive things about this new school so if someone want's to be with a new school from just about Day 1 contact me or the school itself .

Cheers
Ricky
