UK Car in Malta

marsascala247

I have relocated from the UK  March 2024 ,  brought my own  car to Malta and taking advantage of the exemption from registration tax  .   I will keep the car for the 2 years as the rules state .

If I sell the car here after the 2 years  will the new owner have to pay the registration Tax  at that point  ?  ,  a local car dealer has told me this is the case .

Stating the obvious  this will  devalue the car here ,  if the new owner has to factor in paying this Tax

I bought my car from the UK 7 years ago and the agreement  was to  qualify  for the exemption  of registration  tax you had to prove you had owned the car for 2 years in the UK?  & if you sell the car the tax is to be paid  unless you scrap it.
