Working whilst on Vacation

DCYF2024

I am an online self employed retail business owner and a citizen of the UK. My partner is based in Malta for work temporarily and we are planning for me to travel over to see him and stay for 3 weeks.

I would like to continue working on my business for the UK by taking orders, promoting, advertising, social media posts and responding to emails etc while I am in Malta on my laptop.

I've been trying to find out if that is allowed.

I've looked into the requirements but only seen a digital nomad visa but that is for 3 months and doesn't seem to fit the 3 weeks I'll be staying for.

Can anyone who is in a similar situation or has insight into this let me know what the best thing to do is, please? I don't want to get into trouble when I'm abroad as I would be accepted payments but it would only be from the uk market - but as I am self employed I don't want to completely stop working either.

Many thanks in advance :)

Welcome to the Forum, when our family come to see us for a holiday they spend some of the time working on line from here.

This won't be a problem, you are tax resident in the UK and earning for a local entity there, your location for short periods do not matter.

However if you were to be in Malta for a longer period it could become complex tax wise.  Anyway though you can only be in Malta 90 days out of any 180 thats not long enough to impact tax residence.
