Questions About Tax Filing and Regulations in Ireland

jogena

Hi all,

I’m currently navigating the tax system in Ireland and could really use some clarification. I’m self-employed and wondering about the process for filing taxes here. Specifically, I’m unsure about:

  1. The deadlines for self-assessment and any penalties for missing them.
  2. The types of deductions or expenses that I can claim as a self-employed individual.
  3. Whether I need to register for VAT if my earnings are below a certain threshold.

Has anyone here gone through the self-assessment process in Ireland or have experience with the tax laws for small businesses? Any advice or resources would be hugely helpful.

Thanks so much!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

None of us here are tax experts; if your tax affairs are complicated (and it sounds like they are), my advice is to always speak to a tax consultant.  In the meantime, a few links you may find useful:

  1. Irish Tax & Customs.
  2. Irish Government Citizens Information.
  3. Expat Tax adviser (from Google, so always beware).

I hope this helps.
