Moving to Gibraltar.....

Sheffield61

Hi all & thanks for having me here.....😁

My name is John 58 years of age and based in Sheffield UK.....

I and my partner are considering moving on a permanent basis to Gibraltar if at all possible......

We are both from the UK and hold full UK passports.....

I would be thankful for any advice on any or all of the following points please.....

1. My partner currently gets both the higher care component and lower mobility component of 'PIP', could she still get this DWP benefit paid if she lived in Gibraltar full time?
2.  I currently get carers allowance for her, could I continue to get this in Gibraltar full time?
3. Whilst not of GOV OAP pension age till 2028  I do have full OAP national insurance contributions. Would I be able to get my GOV OAP pension paid to me if I lived in Gibraltar full time?
4. We have around £200,000 to purchase a flat or similar, would this suffice for this purpose?
5. Both my partner and myself currently receive free NHS prescriptions. Could this be the case in Gibraltar also?

Many thanks in advance.

John.....😁

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Not an easy question to answer if you've not experienced it; there is a UK Gov website that should help you with some of the questions; this link will take you there.

I just filled it in as if I was you; it tells me that you would get nothing.  I then filled it in as if I was you, but in receipt of State Pension, it then told me I could claim the allowances you are asking about.  So it seems that receipt of the State Retirement pension is the trigger to also claiming benefits.

With regards to State Pension; I can tell you that how much depends entirely on how much you've paid in; there is an on-line guide that will forecast how much and when you are entitled to it; this link will take you there.

There is a system similar to the NHS in Gibraltar, but prescriptions have to be paid for.

For the cost of living, the Numbeo website offers lots of information; this link will take you there; I've just created a cost comparison between Sheffield and Gibraltar; this link will take you straight there.  The costs are usually 6 months behind reality, but are good enough to give you a feel for it.

Hope this helps.
