Visa/Work Permit in St. Maarten

I'm hoping to move to St. Maarten this fall and i was hoping to get a little information on how to get a work permit. I was recently livving in Grand Cayman and while getting a work permit down there you can not be in the country while your work permit is being processed but it only takes 3 weeks to go through. How does geeting a work permit in St. Maarten compare? Is it harder? Can you stay in the country while waiting for it to go through?

You cannot apply for a work permit. Your employer has to do it for you and it is quite expensive.
