Home security

GordonM

Hello, my name is Gord. My wife and I live in Canada and have purchased a small piece of property in Los Pargos, Costa Rica. There is a small building being constructed and will be ready on our arrival.
While the building is being built the contractor has an employee staying on the site to look after the equipment .  There has already been two people on a motor bike come by and try to steal his motor from his cement mixer . Fortunately the fellow looking after the property was able to scare them off .  My concern is while we are in Canada and the building is complete how can  we protect our new home in Costa Rica while we are in Canada?
Thanks Gord.

Unless you hire security 24/7 or have someone you really trust lived there you wouldn't be able to protect your new home.

Unfortunately, trying to live part-time in both countries, you will find that your home in CR could be compromised. It is recommended that you never leave the house, unoccupied. Even for a week-end. Which means hiring someone to live in it, or rent it out if you are gone. I have seen  houses where there was absolutely nothing left in the building.

Our homes in various areas,  were broken into multiple times. We had many tools taken, cement poles  holding live cables,  the motor out of our cement mixer and the lists goes on. Nothing was 'returned'.

You could install bars on your doors and windows but then they may come through the roof or pull of the bars with a vehicle...

You could get dogs, but know that they could be poisoned, like ours were. Our Tico neighbors were also targeted that time and  total of 12 dogs died.  That was worse than any theft of belongings.
