US State Department issued worldwide travelers' warning today.

If you are a USC and have not registered for the US DoS STEP program, you should do so online as soon as practical at its website.

A few unrelated banking notes: As recently as last week, I am batting a paltry 0-11 in the banking department here, since:

a). I don't have Tico relatives in C.R.;

b). I don't have loads of transferable cash;

c). I don't own property in C.R.;

d). I am not a "society" (e.g., LLP or LLC incorporated).

I did succeed in opening an account in a credit union/bank in the nearby provincial capital (not convenient, but better than nothing), and I had the option to deposit and withdraw in both Colones and USD.

It took about ten days afterward for my debit card to be ready for pick-up.

I had to rely on the cooperation of my landlord for his information: name/address/phone number/email/Cedula number [national ID number, akin to our SS #], in addition to my own comparable information (except with my US Passport number [minus the Capital Letter in the beginning- ordinal numbers only).

Interestingly, the last bank officer that turned me down last referred me to a bank that previously told me that I could only open an account there once I could demonstrate residency for six (6) months in C.R. [= BAC]

Also, re,: Phone service in C.R. for newbies. I have worked out several options and once I have everything in place (an incredibly complicated and time-consuming for me to get what I wanted), I will post information that pertains to it, if anyone shows interest.

I have discovered four (4) good options that are appealing and not too expensive (especially if one has access to reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi).
