New members of the Philippines forum, introduce yourselves here - 2022
Hi all
New here. My name is Jason and i am interested in meeting people thru these forums and learning as much about the P.I. as i can in hopes to visit again and hopefully retire there one day not too far into the future
Any info appreciated
@jm74williams22
Philippines has a lot of tourist spot.try to visit cebu , Boracay,Palawan, bohol, or davao. I'm sure you will be enjoy here. Filipinos are friendly and hospitable. But still be careful of some they may take advantage of foreigners.
As much as possible avoid drinking from tap water. Buy lots of bottled water.
Good luck and enjoy
@Mary Jean villarin Heyy!! Thank You very much for the suggestions and advice
I will look for more info on those spots. And yes, bottled water, by the gallon, is on my budget list. Very aware of the tap water situation lol... I got a little ill one time just from eating the ice in my coke from a McD's, I think it was in Makati, but it was a long time ago so don't quote me on the location lol! Anyway.. lesson learned
Another place I have heard that may be good to visit is Hundred Islands in Pangasinan, do you know much about it?
Thanks again and enjoy your day,
Jason

Hi,
I'm moving to retirement in Argao, Cebu soon. Possibly 1st week of November. I've got numerous questions for some of my final planning before the move.
Welcome Larry, so we can help you, tell us what your criteria is, beaches, night life, medical, other ex-pats, economical living etc. I am on Mactan, plenty of ex-pats, good restaurants, access to Cebu Airport, not as busy as Cebu City but still traffic problems, not that far from medical treatment. I hope I can help.
regards Bruce

Hello all im Terry from Texas
retired again after working 3 more years in Abu Dhabi where i met this lovely woman.
im 67 and staying with my Philippine GF south of Davao in Mabini
we are working on my Visa
go a one month extension in Davao that was pretty easy. They say next tome i can get 2 month extension.
flew in through Singapore and spent 2 days
that was nice after the 17 hour plane trip.
im looking for pinto beans to cook so maybe i can find some. Not crazy about Red Horse but found Stella in S n R and san mig light is ok.
so far very happy here.
Welcome aa, enjoy the Philippines and don't let the tripe get under your collar.
Cheers, Steve.
@aalottjr Welcome Terry. I was living in the Spring Branch section of Houston when I met my wife but I was born in West Virginia and we had pinto beans practically every meal. Lazada has a wide assortment of dried pintos. I brought dried beans with me, mostly red kidneys, but haven't cooked them yet. The problem in the provinces is finding a chunk of ham or smoked hocks to cook them with.
@peterzapfella Howdy. I got to visit Perth in 1985, which seems like a lifetime ago. I remember it as a beautiful, laid-back city not dissimilar to the way San Diego was probably 20 years earlier. Maybe we'll catch up on the airwaves sometime.

Howdy, all! I'm Lenny and retired to the Philippines with my Filipina in 2019. Married in 1979, she moved to the States with me in 1980 where we lived until retirement. We built our Filipino retirement home on land she inherited from her dad out in the province of Aklan. It's a beautiful area off the beaten path, which suits both of us just fine.
My hobbies of photography, music (guitar and bass), and amateur radio keep me busy in retirement, including my participation and membership in the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary. The PCGA has been a great opportunity for me to "give back" in addition to meeting many new Filipino friends.
If you're on Panay and want to meet, just give me a shout. Amateur radio operators can find me on DMR TG 5156, IRLP 5156, or EchoLink DX6ARC-R. And you can occasionally hear me check into the 7195 evening HF nets.
Y'all have a great day!

Hi, Paul here. I am part-time expat living in Baguio 5-6 months a year while working in Southern California (university academic calendar). My fiance-wife met in 2019 before COVID quarantines. I was locked out of the Philippines from March 2020 to February 2022, although we did spend time in third countries.
Since February of 2022, I have been in Baguio, more correctly baranguay Virac (11km from city center) and living in the house we build (still completing one more floor). It is a beautiful city. To me, it is probably the best small city in my life history; this is based on a history working and living in 8 US states, British Columbia, and traveled for work throughout Asia (except China). I grew up in the Northwest US (Oregon and Washington). Baguio is very similar to Portland, Oregon where you can reach the ocean in about an hour away from the pine trees and mountains.
I do miss social outdoors activities as these are not the general interests of Filipinos.
Looking forward,
Paul
Welcome to the forum Paul.
I am about 2 hours away in Bacnotan La Union. Maybe catch up one day.
Cheers, Steve.
Thanks, Steve for reaching out. We go often southward of Bacnotan toward Dagupan yo visit her relatives. They are mostly Pampagan and Igorots of Mountain Province; however, Baguio has been their base for decades.
We are looking at some land in Bacnotan. would love to meet up one day soon.

@Julien Hi, everyone. Lonely Wolf, NY, here. I have been married to my Filipina wife for almost 30 years and have worked in New York City as a system engineer for just as long. The covid pandemic has taken a lot from us, but we were strong enough to make it through. A lot of love for our front-line responders when the pandemic hit. My wife was holding that front line with others, it was time to get her out of that PPE suit and enjoy life. Mission completed.
We will retire in less than a month and head out to the Philippines. Will keep an eye on the forum, and be safe.
Hello Lonely Wolf,
Welcome to expat.com!
Thank you for this lovely introduction!
I'm sure that you will love it there
Our Philippines forum is very active. If you have any questions, you can ask on the forum itself.

Welcome to the forum Gerd.
Cheers, Steve.
@Gerd Domonar Hello, I have 2 daughters slightly older than each of yours. What are doing for schooling?
Hello, I am Duc, 61 years from the Netherlands.
I fell in love with a Filipina and we decided to live together in the Philippines.
Things between her and me are going well but I still need to discover everything: the country, the language, the food, a visa, a health insurance, a bank account, a driver's license, ....... etc.
37y male digital nomad from netherlands, going to davao in march. just curious; whats the best place to meet non-sexpat expats in davao? Im not into that scene

Hello,
my name is Charles Wells, living in Texas. I am a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and would love to live and work in the Philippines. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,

Hello,
My name is Charles Wells. I am 65 yrs and live in Glenn Heights, Texas. I would love relocate to the Philippines but need employment. I have administrative experience, package handling (supervisor at UPS), managerial experience (Store Mgr, Papa John’s Pizza), and medical library experience (Dept of Veterans Affairs).
Any information is greatly appreciated.
Good luck on finding employment in the Philippines. Would advise not moving to the Philippines until you can retire.
Similar to Mugteck, I would strongly advise a big dose of caution before transferring here. Jobs for foreigners exist, but not in high numbers. Furthermore, salaries and pay rates are nowhere near the lowest entry level jobs in the USA. Cost of living is relatively low, true, but it comes with significant lifestyle changes as well.
Do your homework well before selling all you’ve got and committing to a move. It’s true that you can get by on much less than in the USA, but the amenities normally available in the USA are either hard to find outside of major metro areas or relatively expensive related to other things.
You are not in Kansas any more, my friend. Do not expect your favorite products to be widely available. You need to be open about accepting local traditions, foods, etc. 20 years in the military (like me…) should have you prepared well enough if you ventured off base at all. Except moving here isn’t an afternoon or evening off base. It’s full time. Best of luck!

Another thing to consider at 65 you have Medicare in the states. . . .your Medicare is not good in the Philippines.
You may be in good health now but with increasing age you will have increasing medical problems. With your post it seems it would be difficult for you to survive on SS since you are inquiring about employment, being 65 is not a plus looking for employment either in the states or here.
If you get over these hurdles, you will have to consider prescription cost.
Charles if your Social Security isn't enough to live on in the Philippines, consider getting a job online. Teach English etc... Once your online income is established then move overseas.
At 60 I retired and thought that was old. Best thing I ever did.
Cheers, Steve.
Happy morning to all of you !
now I'm also a member of your forum and I'm looking forward to read many interesting topics about emigration to the Philippines.
I'm planning my move for next year and I'm already looking forward to this wonderful country.
After living 10 years in Egypt (originally from Germany) it is a nice move with many adventures around Southeast Asia.
If someone is here in the forum with sailing experience please get in touch, as I would like to plan longer trips, but can only find little information about sailing in the Philippines.
Best regards to all of You
Rue
