Hello everyone!

My name is Vin and I am seriously considering relocating to the Philippines in the new year. I have never been there and want to learn as much as I can regarding which provinces would be agreabale to me and which areas I should avoid.

I also need to learn about passport, visas, etc.  I am not coming to work, I am independent and have always thought it was a beautiful country. Plus, I am Catholic.

In my opinion go anywhere except Manila, Cebu and some parts of southern Mindanao which might be considered dangerous. Come to the Philippines and travel around a while is probably the best plan.

Thanks!

Actually a lot of typhoon 🌀

Lot of electricity break

Take care of girls, lot of scammers.

Good place is Boracay.

Visit for two months before 'relocating' which suggests a permanent move. Assume that everyone is trying to scam you even when they are smiling.

Tip: Filipina's are allergic to facial hair. Suggest a visit to the barber before boarding your flight.

G'day mate,

One thing about the Philippines is a warm human acceptance of people as we are. A Philippine person has the rich cultural heritage of +7,000 tropical islands, now co-mingled with Asian and world cultures, sparking their unique and strong all-togetherness, bonhomie and human warmth. You are no stranger, in their old strange land.  Just be quiet and listen, and you will be accepted warmly and with genuine human interest in any public gathering nearly anywhere. Each place is different, don't be a jerk, and the warmth of their culture will embrace and include you also.

Happy trails Vin .. although, keep hold of your cards, phone and passport 😉

Hi, Before you make any commitments to anyone make sure that this is the country where you want to live.

If you can live with the poor infrastructure and the climate then you might consider where you want to stay.

You cannot buy any land here but you can buy a condo. If you are not sure that this country is for you, you can make a long term rent in a house or a condo.

Be careful with the girls. There a lots of gold diggers and a foreigner is considered a big catch.

The visa is no issue. As a tourist you can stay here for up to 3 years before you have to leave the country. However, I am sure you want to leave after a few months to see the surrounding countries. (Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, ....)

Good luck

Hi,

Thanks - @Gintaras.uk

Hi and welcome to the forum, enjoy.

Can I ask if you have been to Palawan before? There are plenty of areas in the Philippines when it comes to natural beauty and untouched areas.

Good luck with your move.

Cheers, Steve.

@bigpearl

My wife went to Palawan this year, she liked it, we don’t want to anywhere near metropolis, however puerto princesa is big enough, and schools appear ok too.

Price wise is cheaper than Manila, sea food is easily accessible as well.

Uk pound will last further as well.

I guess best think would be to try out for yourself.

Forgot to mention, weather appears better in Palawan during rainy season, it looks like main typhoons etc just about pass by Palawan island.

info from my wife, I don’t research it much though.

bigpearl

Yes try it out Gintaras.UK

I did for a few weeks and a fantastic place but we settled on Luzon, each to their own as long as you enjoy.

Cheers, Steve.

Hi, I’m Bobby from the US…

I’m looking for about a 6 month stay in June 2025.

Im leaning toward Boracay since I’m single and the weather looks perfect for beach living.

Any and all suggestions are welcome

Hi, I am living in Boracay. Please check on google maps Oceanway. These are condos and the monthly rate is between 25k to 35k /month. If you like the location, I can help you. I would need the exact time-frame.

If you prefer the action, you might want to go the front beach (white beach) of Boracay. There are apartments for rent. You can check it in airbnb.

bye

Welcome To the forum! As far as safety goes use common sense and you will do fine. Cebu and other cities Are Not dangerous as others have suggested. I have been coming to Cebu, Manila for the past 20 years with no issues. I am happily married to an Filipina for 19 years. We live in Argao Cebu most of the year. We own an house there and own land in Dumaguete and Cebu City. Again use common sense. If you go out front partying take some friends with you. Avoid wearing expensive jewelry and don’t flash your cash.  Again this advice would be applicable almost anywhere. While there are some scammers and gold diggers the majority of Filipinas / Filipinos are not so.  You can find good ladies in the provinces and cities. I would also suggest renting and traveling about the country prior to making any major life decisions.
