But I'm interested to know the differences cost of living between Vientiane, Thabok, Thakhek and Pakse.

Have no individual item costs but the cost of living is not much different between Pakse and Vientiane.
Rents in Vientiane are higher because of the expat market and Pakse is much the same due to lack of rentals available.
Food slightly cheaper in the Pakse market.

No personal knowledge of Thabok or Thakek but I would imagine they would both be cheaper but the market shopping may not have the range of goods you could buy in Pakse or Vientiane.

I prefer Pakse to Vientiane. It is a regional capital city but nowhere as crowded as Vientiane. We lived there for 5 years and my wife comes from the area. We moved to Vientiane for our children's education.
