Every time I take off from Vinon-sur-Verdon (LFNF) and climb above the ridges of the Southern Alps, I’m amazed all over again. I teach gliding here because I want pilots to feel what I feel up there, and to get to the big mountains safely and confidently, step by step.

 

I’m Yegor Kanakhin, a glider flight instructor (FI(S)) with mountain rating T1/T2/T3, TMG (S), wave soaring, aerotow and winch launch. Alpine Soaring offers personal, one-to-one training. You fly with me, not in a queue.

 

Your path, from first flight to the high mountains

 

First Flight: discover soaring with an instructor in the Alps.

SPL Stage 1, toward first solo: a two-week intensive course taking you from the basics to your first solo flight.

SPL Stage 2, toward the licence: a second two-week course covering soaring, mountain navigation and cross-country flying, up to the EASA skills test.

Mountain Rating T1/T2/T3, wave soaring and TMG extension: the skills that open the Alps to you.

SPL theory support: theory preparation and self-study guidance (for example, the online course at ground-school.eu).

 

Why Vinon-sur-Verdon?

The airfield sits at the gateway to the Southern Alps, with plenty of sunshine and direct access to alpine ridges and wave systems. The Alpine season runs from March to October. From November to February I fly and teach in Namibia.

 

Practical information

 

Instruction in English or French

Training takes place within the DTO of the AAVA club; club membership is required for the SPL courses

Typical cost: about €4,400 for Stage 1 and about €4,700 for Stage 2 (with 10 flying days each, club costs and instruction included; medical, theory exam and accommodation are extra)

Perfect for international pilots, expats living in France, and visitors who want an intensive course in one or two weeks
