Review : Global Indian International School

Hi Members,

I am from India, and have recently re-located to KL, I am exploring schooling for my kids.

Will appreciate if anyone / or parents can share their feedback about GIIS.

@Gravitas- your views pl on the subject.

Also, Awaiting response from the current parents on the subject.....

Can't really say much. There are so few expats in KL these days, compared to earlier years, so most of pupils are going to be local children anyway. A school is only as good as its staff. In the past I've heard some were not qualified (this is quite common in low-cost international schools) and specialist subject teacher jobs went unfilled for whole terms, so no lessons. You really need to go to the school to reach your own conclusions. You pay for what you get in education among the international schools in KL. If your child is bright and robust then Taylors KL has a good reputation, but its a competitive environment so good for high achievers and strivers mainly.

Thanks Gravitas for our valuable feedback.

Can you suggest few good budget International schools where Indian Expats kids also study ; fees around RM 20k-25k /annum.

@ Gravitas- based on some survey and suggestions from office colleagues , I have shortlisted few international schools, as I have ruled out the GIIS option.
Request you research /  views on each of them , as in terms of education, infra , and whether Indian Expats children study there or not. If possible , pl share ranking based on ur opinion.

1-TENBY International School- Setia Eco Park
2-TANARATA International
3-SAYFOL International School
4-Sri Dasmesh International
5-Havil International school

Try vikas international school on old klang road...ot the international school in brickfileds

Hello,

Which school did you finalize ?

Finally after lot of research and survey, my personal visit to schools, I admitted my kids in GIIS last week.

What about you?

Hi Amar,

Thank you for your reply..
My son is still going to Kindergarten and I am researching about schools for his next academic year...
There has been lot of negative feedback about this school but still most of our known friends have admitted their kids to GIIS...:)
May I know why did you finalize on GIIS?

Hi sir,I am Arun.i may shift to kl very soon from india.my daughter is in 5th..We r planning to put her giis for  next yr as it's a cbse school.but getting mixed reviews.pls do share ur views

Hi Arun,
Don't go with google reviews, its not correct and latest. This school is better than the reviews.

Also, every individual decisions are based on their own requirements. You need to figure out your key decision making criteria's to finalise the school....like your budget , proximity to your work/residence, your tenure in KL.....as far as studies and co-curricula activities are concerned , I have seen it's all there happening in GIIS.

Other International schools have different session like (Sep-Aug) / (Jan-Dec), expensive in terms of fees, fancy /glamourous... Now , you need to deciden    your requirement based on your preferences.

Hi
You need to figure out your criteria....your kid is supposed to go in KG , hence you have lots of time to explore after arrival.

What is your budget  and tenure in KL.

Thank you for your reply...

Hi Amar,

Can you please provide some feedback about GIIS in terms of teacher quality and kids experience now that your kids have been going there for few months.

What were the results like for last year class X /XII boards?

Regards

So far it's good.
Also the results 10th and 12th were good last year.

Assessments and regular studies happen with extra curricular activities.

Moreover depends on child also, how much they grasp and study at home....

Better than Global Indian International School here are some list which might be helpful for kids education with affordable price and good schools.

Little Playhouse /Kinderland , the former is good for kids below 3 and later for 3 years and above.

Hi Amar!

Got to know abt GIIS that it got old school type environment where parents and kids both don't have much say.. is that true that even the teachers are more strict?

How is ur experience in this regard?

And are they really quiet active even with extra murals at school?

Will be moving to KL soon and am so confused with the reviews.. can u plz share ur experience since ur kids already part of the school now?

TIA.

hello Amarji,

I am form india, I am moving to KL in Aug. My son is 6 yrs old studying in Class 1.

Can you guide me what will be cost of schooling, academic sessions term & how he can fit into school continuing his academic session.
Also is there a transport facility also available for the school.

Please help me to understand all this as this will decide whether i shift along with my family or leave them in india for sometime.

Regards,
Sanjeev

Hi Sanjeev,

There are lot of schools , depends on your preference and budget , also the location you are planning to atay.
As far as CBSE board school is concerned, we have GIIS , in Brickfields, its slightly less than the International school.
There are lot of IB schools as well as Cambridge pattern.
What is your curricullam preference and budget.
Where is ur office located and where are you planning to stay .

Some schools provide transport  , but in case school transport is not available than there are lot of private vans attached with tge schools.

Thanks a lot Amarji,

I will update you details in a few days as my final discussion is right on place this weekend.

I haven't heard good things about GIIS . Best avoid it .

Hi Amar,

I am looking for an international school for my kids and my husband's company has a tie up with GIIS. I understand they have the CBSE syllabus but how will this bode well for kids once they complete their 10th and 12th? Will they get admissions to colleges by studying in this syllabus?

Also they have an igcse stream. Do you have any feedback on that? are your kids still studying in GIIS?

regards,

Preeti

Hi where did you put your kids in finally? any reviews on the same?

Hi Preeti,

GIIS is not like any other international school standards.
The level is not so good in comparison to other International schools in KL, but decision depends on the affordability of fee structure. If one can afford the fees for any other popular international school then its better to go for that instead of GIIS.
GIIS has just a CBSE school advantage for Indian nationals so that if they return India the kids can continue.
The school is just to get the certificates , the school provides lot of study materials hence the child has to study on their own.

Most important is your budget for schooling , so you can check the fee of other international schools also before finalising on GIIS.
Also, if you need CBSE board then this options is good.

Hi Amar,

I am discussing an opportunity in KL which may conclude as soon as the pandemic issue is through. My tenure in KL shall be only for three years and hence would prefer CBSE. This leaves me with GIIS as the only choice. Could you please tell me, 1. Do they take midterm admissions 2. Ball park fee structure for Class VI. Thanks

Anand

Hi

I have gone through discussions above. Even I have done lot of research at my end. To be very frank, options are really limited if u need to stick to 25k range and stay in KL. There are lot of international schools around similar range but they are somewhere 30 plus kms away from city centre hence doesn't make sense. My view on each school:

1. Taylors - Beyond class 6 , your annual spend will be above 30 k but is one of the best bet if u r seeking quality, city centre, igcse board. The only problem, they have lots of holidays but nice infrastructure and quality of teachers as medium to good. Being from india, might be an issue initially to the way kids are taught since we feel its very light and easy for kids.

2. Sayfol - Reasonable fees, I think with 20k annual but infra is a struggle. Few teachers are still old school and as such nothing great about the reputation.

3. GIIS - haven't heard anyone talking great about the school but seems to be the only solution for indian parents in terms of curriculum and fees which is within normally 25k.

Then there are others like hibiscus, ucsi which are around 10-20 percent cheaper than taylors but the infra and location are bit of an issue as they are somewhere in the middle of industrial area.  For me practically, it's a choice between taylors if u can afford slightly higher fees and ok with igcse or else giis if cbse. Haven't heard anything about Vikas though its there on the Internet so I would suggest someone inputs the feedback for everyone's help.

One additional tip, few of these schools have open days. If u enrol kids through that, you might land up saving on registration and application fees.  Might not be much, but whatever is saved. Can also try beaconhouse. They have really good infra but I haven't heard too much about it. Its in PJ and Cheras and u can go there and see if you like that.

Global Indian International School has a wonderful curriculum. What makes the school stand out is its approachable faculty members. Also, their impeccable infrastructure and they follow high standard safety and security.

I know this is an old thread but my kids currently go to GIIS and I can add a point or two to the discussion. One thing that I have noticed is different about GIIS is how they stick to their 9GEMS framework. For those who don't know it is an award-winning holistic teaching methodology that helps students to meet real-life challenges. I have definitely seen my kids become more outgoing and confident in the past 2-3 years at this school. Overall the teachers are good, the infrastructure is great and so I can confidently recommend this school to anyone who is on the lookout.

GIIS Kuala Lumpur is a student-centric campus with elegant design ideas and best practices within the industry to produce great benefits for the students.

GIIS has an array of ECA and CCA activities for the benefit of students. It is mandatory for students to participate in at least one activity under both categories. GIIS Kuala Lumpur certainly shapes the development of students.

GIIS is an amazing school with world-class teachers. The school is inviting and still maintains a high academic standard. My children have thrived at this school and is obtaining marks better than they ever got at previous schools. They also had incredible sporting opportunities, not just representing the school but also by trying new sports games they haven't played before.

I can say with immense pride that my children are enjoying a world-class education and, they have enormous support from teachers to be the best. I love the warm and inviting community feel that the school assures and, I am sure they handpick their staff to reflect this. The communication is excellent, from the admin to the teachers to the class reps. I would unquestionably recommend the school to parents looking for an engaging, warm and welcoming school. GIIS is one of the best schools in Kuala Lumpur.

I am a mother of two lovely kids. At GIIS they have helped my son overcome his fear of reading, and my daughter has turned out so much more independent and confident. Thank you to GIIS Community

Global Indian International School supports and encourages students to consistently perform well and to meet high standards and expectations. They have scholarship programs that are best for a students career development.

The school focuses on healthy competition and give a platform to all the studentst. This has helped a lot in my daughter's confidence. GIIS Kuala Lumpur is quite well known for hosting fantastic events.
