My husband and I recently moved to London from New York. We would love to meet other couples in the area. Since we couldn't really find a good way to meet other like-minded couples easily, we decided to do something about it.

Same here! NY > London with my fiance for a job transfer. I agree with you - was tough initially to find others outside of just colleagues, but Meet Up is a great website and coincidentally there's a little American group in the neighborhood we live in. We'd be interested in meeting more though!
