Friends and portuguese classes

Hello, I have just moved to Sao paulo a few weeks ago and I'm struggling a little  trying to learn portuguese on my own. Also my girlfriend works all day during the week and that leaves me with not a lot to do. So I was wondering if anybody would like to get paid to tutor me in some portuguese classes or just hang out and grab lunch and talk about living here or whatever. Thanks....

Hey,  my name is Rodrigo and I'm an English/Portuguese teacher. I live in São Paulo and my wife is Katie, she's American. Here is my contact info, so you can reach me if you're interested.
My e-mail is [email protected] and my cell phone is 8030-6204.

Hi -  I am another one of these guys...
I am a hungarian who is finishing his studies in Berlin, visiting my girlfriend in SP until end of February, and
who wouldn't mind taking part in some Portuguese learning activities.
What about sharing a private teacher ? or just meeting with a conversation groups an excuse to meet like-minded people (btw, huge fans of the new hungarian government may not qualify as like-minded ;-)
However, I am a beginner in Portuguese, and I can't pay more than, say, 40RS per class... I have bought a book and am looking at livemocha.com, though.

We live in Campo Belo (near the Kolping club), and i have no car of my own - taxi to metro Sta Cruz costs 20Rs:-/
My time is not unlimited as I am writing up my thesis and looking for a postdoc position to move here, also involved in family happenings, but it should be enough to get to simple conversations-

ciao!

So, for anybody interested in Portuguese Classes and Socialising:

I am thinking about sharing a teacher with 3-4 people (hope to arrive at around 40 RS/ person and class) Naturally, I am also thinking of linking it with a bit of beer/juice lubricated conversation after classes...
Anybody interested?
We will be out of town from now on, so I would aim to start around the 4-5th of January-ish.

As I mentioned, we live in Campo Belo and I have no car other than my girlfriends which I cant drive, since I am not on the insurance policy:( and I am not great in city-driving (oh, European public transport, sigh)

I found a prospective portuguese teacher (amazingly, a lady of hungarian parentage, and even quite reasonable hungarian knowledge, since we started the search by contacting the local Hungarian club, :)
She has taught protuguese for the hungarian consulate, and she would be happy to offer classes to a group too (which implies that she knows english, I didn't test this though).
She lives 'not far', meaning within 20min drive from Campo Belo's German 'Kolping' Club.  - Which means, I will need to borrow a car (except I am lucky enough to have a bus connection running to her house). Or one pays a bit more so she would come to some place.

We also know a German lady who sometimes teaches people (in the context of the Kolping club)

BTW:
we will be in    São Sebastião  from tomorrow on, to enjoy the beach and Ilhabella for a week or so, - if anybody happens to be there, one could even go and grab a Succu de Gojaba together (but my girlfriend may be talked into beer more easily:)

hey fireroller

I'm also going to the north shore (litoral norte) tommo!

i'm going to maresias though!

anyways hit me up if you want to grab a few beers while ur there since it's not too far (about 30 min driving, with no traffic off course haha) just send me a private msg and i'll give you my contact and where i'm stayin!

on the same note, if anyone is interested in group lessons i'm up for the challenge and i can drive if it's in the greater sao paulo area!

lmk

happy new year everyone!

cheers

alex

Hi, I'm actually replying to jreid's initial post in that I already have Portugues classes but am interested in meeting new people in Sao Paulo. I live in the Pinheiros District and am available most weekends and a few evenings a week. Let me know if you're available for a drink and we'll arrange it.

Dan

Hi,

How are u doing?

I don't know if you are still in São Paulo, but if you are, my wife and I go to a church named "Calvary" every Sunday and it is located in Campo Belo. If you want to meet us there or afterwards to just hang out. I'm also an English/Portuguese teacher. My wife is still learning Portuguese and she is doing really well.

Hope talk to you soon.
Bye.

Hi there!

I am Brazilian. Lived in London for almost 7 years and my husband and I  decided to come back to Brazil last year. Even though I love this country I miss a lot the contact with foreigners – Left all my British/Italian/Slovak/French friends in London 

Well I work all week, but mostly have the weekends free ( I usually go to the beach, but sometimes stay in Sao Paulo)

We could all meet one weekend to go out for a drink, or ( as I know SP is bloody expensive), we could go to Ibirapuera Park.
Just an idea.

Jane
