Health insurance for kidney transplant

Hello friends how are you all. This is my first post here I am from Pakistan and planning to go to Malaysia for Phd. I have done MS management sciences. I had a kidney transplant in 2007 and I have to take medicine throughout my graft life and these medicines cost much. I want to ask what will be procedure for me to get medical insurance, currently my cost of medicines is almost 300 US dollars per month. So when I will buy insurance plan from any medical insurance provider whether I have to pay them according to the rates of medicines in Malaysia? How all this will work? Please guide as I have no idea about this issue. Any suggestions information is welcomed. Thank you

Malaysian policies will not cover existing health issues. They only cover hospitalization.

Prescription medicines are unbelievably expensive in Malaysia.

Unless your current policy will cover you in Malaysia, you can forget about getting coverage here.

Thanks gravitas. So you mean if I am on my own for medicines than getting a visa will not be an issue, Right? I shall get visa easily and can get my medicines from stores in Malaysia from my pocket?

I cant comment on the connection between getting a visa and having health insurance. If they insist you must have it, then perhaps you will have to purchase it in Pakistan or from a worldwide company that covers Pakistan and Malaysia. You will need a doctor in Malaysia to provide prescriptions for your medicine. Nothing can be bought over the counter here that is a prescription drug. Very strict rules. Suggest you make enquiries in Pakistan about this, because as I mentioned, insurances here are just for hospitalisation and people pay as they go to visit a doctor and for medicine.

You could ask your current physician or hospital if they are able to make a referral to a doctor in Malaysia. Specialists often have colleagues in other countries. With your nature of medical history, it would be crazy not to do this as without a doubt you will fall sick in Malaysia, because of the different bacteria and virus involved.
