Generator power?

Hi, im looking at buying a bit of a ruin (solid walls and roof) that I plan to do up over time. It has no water or electricity connected but it is in a village - the electricity is fed into the house but will need reconnecting. HOWEVER im thinking that because I wont be living there it may be worth buying a silent generator instead for when i am there - it will save the hassle of bills and if i can run everything off it (lights, television etc) it may be better? Does anyone have experience of this. I would look to get the house rewired (its small) and the main feed simply fed to the generator outside.....is this doable? Your advice would be most appreciated. Cheers in advance.

Also the water may need repiping in - the mains are no more than 10 metres away in the street - any ideas how this may cost?
