Hi all ! Free English club - cultural exchange start up

Hi everybody. I'm new to the forum. I'm Tran. I just recently returned home from studying and working in Europe. I'm passionate about opening a free English Club aiming

to help everyone improving their English skills
& to act as a meeting point for expats and locals to learn about each other cultures. As a result expats can then integrate into VNese culture better while locals would have a good understanding of foreign cultures for future overseas travel or study.

I would love to meet like-minded people to take this venture forward. Thanks and all the best.

So where is the meeting?

Tran,

I can't believe you would post this up, while Teacher_Mark's thread is in full swing.  They didn't teach you to read too well in Europe, did they?

If you are interested in mingling, then I highly suggest that you get in touch with them.  Teacher_Mark and his English Club has been up-and-running for sometimes now.

Excuse our Howie, women have bad hair days, Howie has bad mornings ... most days.

Howie, up here in the big city I know there are at least 23 English Corners ... most are over subscribed. Over subscription means that students can't get 'quality time'.

My partners and I run English / homework classes every week night in our BMT offices and we have to literally push them out at 21.30H! Thr hunger for knowledge in VN is enormous.

I also teach the Ede and other groups essential basic electrical wiring and plumbing.

Tran has a edge on some teaching groups as he knows where the Vietnamese students / participants are coming from. Obviously someone poured money in to his education and he is to be congratulated for sharing his experiences instead of sitting in a coffee shop masturbating his iPhone or tearing around the streets in the early hours.

Everyone can learn from others, even if their education is good. I was taught how to snap a stainless steel wire with my bare hands ... which you shouldn't do alone ... by a man who only made it to sixth grade, and I have a degree. Saved me no end of time.

Thanks for reply guys.

Wild 1: To start with Im new to the forum. I already posted on Teacher Mark's thread. Will meet up with him. yet again I have my own ideas of not only a club but also a meeting point. I believe complains wouldnt rush in cos there r too many people passinate about helping others.

Jaitch: This is my idea so far. Would be great to meet up with you to discuss further. I would like to help not only students but working professionals ..all in all everyone who would like to improve their English. I received a scholarship for my degree and wish to pay it back forward. Email me on [email protected] to let me know when u r free to chat.

Everywhere in VietNam is searching for English training sources.

I have a strong accent, so it would be wrong for me a teach people.

Answer up Canuck.  How about me and you meeting up for coffee, as Laid Back Freak suggested?  What day are you free this week?

**TD Mark, I think you've been watching too many Cowboy Movies.

"See ya in the Saloon at High Noon you Gun-Slinger you!!"

@Jaitch:"Excuse our Howie, women have bad hair days, Howie has bad mornings ... most days."

**LOL good analogy

"..I also teach the Ede and other groups essential basic electrical wiring and plumbing."

**Maybe you can teach those EVN City planners a thing or two. I'm horrified everytime I see the "bird's nest" wiring driving down the city streets.

"FUS Amber,  I believe I may have seen you in a few movies.  You live in the San Fernando Valley, don't you?"

**@TD Mark:What movies are you referring to? What goes on in San Fernando Valley? I'm gonna have to borrow Wild1's favorite quote on this one: HEAR NO EVIL SEE NO EVIL SPEAK NO EVIL. :gloria

Please be a more positive role model to your students.

"...I believe I may have seen you in a few movies.  You live in the San Fernando Valley, don't you?"

**Great job Forrest Gump, you just advertised to whole forum that you watch Porn. Now was that very smart? ha ha

"Stupid is as stupid does" :)

Hi Btran, that sounds great. When I'm in Vietnam I will give you a hand as well. Opening a small cafe has always been a side interest of mine so maybe we can open one and run the free nightly classes from there and they only pay for the coffee/drink (ho ho ho). How does that sound?

Please call me with number : 093  720  5885 , I am Eliza. The same your ideas. Wellcome to contact.

for me, i think it a good idea. ^^

Hi Btran,
Ur idea is really great. I know there are a lot of English club in HCMC now, but not all of them have good quality. So I'd like to join and see what we can do to change it :D.
I want to improve my English too. ^^

i went to an english club named Master cup Coffe, in D7, it's great, u guys should check it out

I like to join and help out. I am a qualified accountant and I have worked in England, Australia around South East Asia.

I go to another English Club. We're planning to meet at Pearl Cafe in Saigon Pearl on Tuesday Night. Everyone is welcome to come there. If interested, I'll post the details...

Oh, that's great idea @btran. I know a English club of some foreign friends in a Church on 161 Nguyen Van Troi, Phu Nhuan district. The club is at 7-9pm Thursday every week. We are also welcome a new club, it's mean we have more chance to connect with all culture around the World.

I think it is really a great idea. I would love to join you guys. if you have any inforamtion abou this group, pls email me at [email protected]. thanks

The 'hunger' to learn English far exceeds the capabilities of the existing clubs. Therefore there can never be 'too many'.

And neither Foreigners nor VNese have a monopoly on them, either. Some Vietnamese-run clubs are extremely good and are led by VNese fluent in the nuances of the English language.

Space seems to be a challenge; some are paying up to VND1,000,000 a month (to the city) for space, others use parks - free. The property manager at my condo just told me that I could use a meeting room free of charge for training purposes where at least one person is from the condo.

that a good idea! i am surely attend if club will be held

let me know when the Club start, please.i like it

Yeh :)) all the ideas are great! I can't wait ! ^^ please let me know when the Club start! I'm Mi from Go Vap district in HCM city!

I'd be interested in being a part of somebody's English corner--I don't care whose lol  Just want the opportunity to get to know some locals and do something productive.

Hello all, I am also running an English Corner in Binh Thanh area near D1. All are welcome to join. Here is some info about my English corner:

Looking for a chance to practice English in a relaxed environment? We are now starting English corner at Wander Coffee ( 48 Pham Viet Chanh, Binh thanh. facebook.com/wandercoffee ).

Anyone is free to join, and the cost if free..except for the coffee. Please bring your classmates or friends, the only rule is.. you must speak English :)

Time: Monday's 6:30 pm to 8:30pm

Why choose 'English Corner'?
English Corner is a chance for you to practice your English speaking and listening skills in a relaxed and natural environment. English students often look for an opportunity to practice their speaking and listening skills and we  have created an environment for you do that.

Do I need to sign up?
No. . This lets you fit English corner into your schedule, and still gives you a change to practice your English skills if you are too busy to join a regular program then come to English corner when you have free time.

Do I need any extra material?
No. English Corners are speaking and listening activities only. However, we do encourage students to bring in news articles, magazines, or relevant topics they wish discuss in a group.

Do I need to study English to join?
No. Students and non-students are encouraged to join. You can bring your friends, family and co-workers to English Corner.

Is there a 'Teacher' in the session?
There is no lesson being taught, so there is no teacher needed. However, we have a teacher/host present to help with topic choice, correcting pronunciation and helping the students when needed. It is up to the students to practice their conversation skills and talk with each other in English. The teacher on hand will act as more of a guide for the students, offering support when needed.

Do I need to stay for the whole session?
No. You are welcome to come and stay for as long as you like. Many students only stay of 45-55 minutes or you can stay for the full 2 hours.

Rules of English Corner:
Speak English.
Don't speak Vietnamese.
Speak more English and have fun !
