Set up a limited company

I am exploring the option of setting up a CNPJ to work as a contractor.

According to the type of activity, Software Development, it would requite to open a SLU (Sociedade Limitada Unipessoal). I had a look at the government website but it looks a bit of a process to do it on my own: https://www.gov.br/pt-br/servicos/inscr … -juridicas

Do you have any experience setting up a CNPJ? Any accountant to recommend?

Thank you,

Martin

Hey, I have done this same process as a Software Engineer. I highly suggest you go to an accountant that specialises in this. Mine handled everything, and its a bonus he works for the local government part time, so he was able to navigate all aspects of the process. I don't think he's much use to you outside of Foz though.

I am not 100% on the details, but I believe depending on how much you make, you might need a 2 person company, and therefor a partner to open it with. You'll both have to take a salary as well from your company, which could be minimum wage if you are not planning to have proof of higher income for loans etc.

The process itself was quick and cost around R$1000-1500 at the time. Hopefully some of the more knowledgeable people on here can give better details. Ultimately, my Brazilian wife handled all of the paperwork required, so I am not too clued into the specifics.

I have a Brazilian software consulting company.  Some excellent information on the options and process -->  https://www.contabilizei.com.br/contabi … -empresa/.

In my case, I used an accountant friend.  I believe the initial startup was in line with the other response, around R$1000-1500.   I also pay R$475 a month to his firm for handling monthly tax oblications, etc.   Mine is an EPP configured as LTDA.   (A small business as a limited liability partnership with my husband)

Depending upon the number of people you would have in your payroll, or your gross sales, you can start with a MEI CNPJ.  Most of the paper work origination is done online, and you do not need an accountant for this.

And yourt monthy tax bill will be diminute.  No taxes based on gross percentages.

Thanks for sharing.

MEI looks like a good option to start, but it cannot be used in certain activities. For example: 6201501 - DESENVOLVIMENTO DE PROGRAMAS DE COMPUTADOR SOB ENCOMENDA

That's why I started looking into a SLU. It can be setup by one person, does not require minimum capital and keeps personal assets separated from company assets.

I checked with an accountant and the costs are similar. Setup R$1200, Monthly maintenance R$350

Enjoy your Easter Sunday!
