Pune is the second largest city in the state of Maharashtra, after Mumbai. Considered to be the cultural capital of Maharashtra, the city with its vibrant metropolis status has attracted many expats. There are also ICT giants such as Wi Pro, IBM, Accenture, Infosys, and  Tata Technologies. Pune also hosts several other small and medium enterprises involved in different sectors of the economy.

Apart from the existence of various industrial units, the city is well-known for its educational institutions. It has been given the title of ‘ Oxford of the East’. Over the years, the city has emerged as a major educational hub that has attracted scores of international students.

Further, the proposed construction (as of 2017) of the Pune International Exhibition and Convention Center, is likely to bring the city forward on the international platform through conferences, exhibitions, meetings, etc.. This centre will include a five-star hotel, a golf course, a business complex, shopping malls, as well as housing units. This project is expected to further boost the local economy.

Pune's labour market

A growing industrial base, good climatic conditions and quality standard of living has attracted many professionals from all over the country. The availability of ample of opportunities has also wooed professionals from other parts of the world, namely  South-east Asia, the Middle East and Africa. As per the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, Pune has been the largest hub for German companies for decades.There are over 225 German companies generating scores of employment opportunities, especially for European nationals.
