Registration Criteria:
Marriages registered within six months: Will show the registry number, names of the spouses, and the date of the event.
Marriages registered after six months: The spouses must petition the courts for permission to register the marriage. If approved, they must register with the office that has jurisdiction over the marriage and submit the issued extract and a note stating that the marriage was registered by court judgment.
Procedure for Obtaining: Applicants should make their application for a “Certificat" to “La Mairie’s” office that has jurisdiction over where the marriage took place. Applicants may also apply at Dakar City Hall. If they don’t register on time, they may contact the court.
Certified Copies Available: Applicants can go to the “mairie” at any time because civil documents are typically only valid for three months.
