Process for Arriving as Permanent Resident

Hi Expats,

I recently received my permeate residency approval and will be moving to Montreal from the UK later this year (Covid allowing).

I'm wondering what actually happens when you arrive in Canada for the first time, especially in these unusual times.

I usually fly to Toronto and transfer to Montreal airport - do I need to fly directly to Montreal in this instance? What actually happens at the airport?

Do I need my residency card, or just my letter of approval?

Do I need to give notice somewhere of my quarantine plans? I assume I can quarantine with my partner if we both stick to the quarantine rules?

Do I need to secure a prescription drug insurance plan before I arrive?

Can I access healthcare from the day I arrive in the country?

Anything else I need to remember / plan for before I fly?

Thanks!!!

Some interesting questions there.

I would also like to know the replies.

With the COVID, policies for entrance to Canada and quarantine change often.
So here is the link for the requirements to enter the country that will indicate the latest policies: https://yulsatisfaction.admtl.com/hc/en … nal-travel

In the province of Québec, you can ask provincial free healthcare if you are a permanent resident. Here is the website where you can get all the information you need: https://www.ramq.gouv.qc.ca/en/citizens … /register. Usually the process will take 3 months, so you need to subscribe to a private health insurance before you obtain it.
