Looking for a Hotel Sales Position

Hi All Expats in Tokyo,

I understand that many companies are still having the requirement for any foreigners who are keen to work in Japan to have at least a JLPT2 standard (Business level).

I am currently working in Singapore for almost 15 years in the travel, hotel & resorts, casino and Theme Park. I am able to speak English, Chinese, Cantonese and Hokkien. I am also pressuring the JLPT4 this coming July and had passed my JLPT5 in Dec 2018. (Which I am able use my current Jap for daily conversation for ordering meals and simple questions and answer)

I always thought that the customers that we are dealing in the travel industry are mainly English and Mandarin speaking as we all know that Chinese are traveling everywhere in the world.

I do hope that any expats here (Singaporeans) who are working in this industry can advise me if my assumption is right for a sales position in the travel trade industry to work in Japan.
If so, I do hope anyone who had an opening in Japan could give me a referral and allowed me to move to Tokyo to work soonest.

Thanks all / anyone in advance.
Jimmy

Have you tried websites such as Daijob, or Gaijinpot to look for a travel sales position?

It would be hard unless you come here. Take a 3 month sabbatical leave, rent a house here and try your luck (change the address to a local address).

N2 or whatever does not matter as much if your potential employer likes you. Best still is to come here and attend the interview.

Thanks.

I am able to come for an interview anytime and even can put a local address there as I do have some friends there.

But I just hope that the company provide the Visa at least.

Appreciate your advice.

Visa should not be an issue as long as you get the offer.

You need to come and make a decision asap as they are opening the gates to foreigners now .

Thanks that's the reason why I am aggressively hunting as they have open up for more foreigners and also for the coming Tokyo Olympics.

Can I ask if you are working there now? And you also took a 3 months leave and found a job there?

Thanks

The_cheong,

You have any recommendation or able to introduce me any openings in this area.

Appreciate your respond and advice.

Jimmy

Try Daijob or Gaijinpot. Both aren't that efficient so the option below works better.

Email Pasona, En World, Robert Walter's jp and all the recruitment firms in Japan and of course, change your resume address to a Japanese one and state that you are living with a friend on a tourist visa.

Thanks alot the_cheong for the advise.
Will change that accordingly.

Hi the_cheong,

I have done your recommendations.
But still not getting any respond.

Its very disappointing as I do see big chain hotel looking for the same position but when I applied I am being rejected immediately.
I still feel they are looking for Japanese only.

Thanks

No, send into the Pasona, En World and Robert Walters in Japan.
You need a Japanese resume also.

Thanks.
Any sample that I should follow for a japanese resume?

You can google for it, then you download any one of them. Any format will be fine. But you will probably need a Japanese to help you to run through to spot for grammar errors.

https://www.pasona.co.jp/   <--- this one, not the one in sg

Thanks the_cheong.
I am getting my Japan teacher to help me.

the_cheong,

Can I know how much taxes are we be taxed when we work there?
Any changes that the company can help with the taxes and also if they can instead pay me to my overseas bank and report a lower salary?

Just trying to explore the possibility.

Thanks

I am not too sure about the taxes, but I heard that for foreigners, the amount of taxes that you pay depend on how long you have been in the country. The longer you have stayed, the more you pay. It is best that you ask the others in the forum about the taxes.

No, you can't. No company will transfer to overseas bank. Too much hassle and overseas charges.

the_cheong

Thanks for your prompt respond always.
Will check out with the others on this.

I have a interview already tomorrow and hope it turns out well.
