Moving from Sharjah to Lagos......any tips please

Safe?  Lagos? or even Nigeria?  these words don't go together   

FMCG business and we used to travel with armed escorts.  During the time I was there, a colleague was kidnapped on the way into Lagos from the airport (main airport road), a corporate facility in Ibadan was attacked by armed men, armed assault and robbery on an expat compound in Lagos and the list goes on.

What you need to understand is that Nigeria is infested by crime and corruption.  A lot of developing world cities are but it is way on the higher side in Nigeria.  And coming from the UAE, you are already not used to crime and watching your surroundings / taking safety precautions.  Nigeria will be a shock to your system.  And it will be little things that get to you e.g. not being able to use credit cards for fear of being scammed, everyone around you asking for "dash" or tips, hotel staff warning you not to step outside the hotel, officials asking for bribes - from immigration staff on arrival to cops in the street etc etc.

Personally, I would advise you to only choose a place like Nigeria if you are living in your home country and want to get out to earn in hard currency.  But you are in UAE already so that shouldn't be a factor. Suggest you stick to UAE if you have a choice.
