Potential move to Tete

Hi All,

I am interested in a potential job offer in Tete, Mozambique.

I am currently situated in Johannesburg, so a place like Tete would be a major change for someone like me.

I have a few questions which I hope you can answer:

1) Are there any decent gyms in Tete?

2) What is the cost of living like in Tete in terms of food, internet, etc

3) What is the expat social life like in Tete, especially for a 26y/o like me - I enjoy the outdoors, so I am sure I will be stimulated there. But I also like to socialise, and making friends. connections etc would be a very important part of my considered move

4) How SAFE is Tete? I am aware of the history of Renamo vs Frelimo, and that things seem to be hotting up again.

Many thanks for all your assistance :)

Hi Mr.Steven,

Hope you are doing good.

I worked in Tete for 1.6 years. However , I have recently  got transferred to Nacala. I also like outdoors and gym.

Yes there are about 2-3 gyms in Tete. One is in City with name "Self Esteem Gym", and second one is near Airport under same name and group "Self Esteem" another one is in city in an hotel named "Hotel IGLU" in an area called Esteya.

Internet is good but sometimes there are shutdowns and maintenance etc. You have Movitel, Vodacom, TV Cabo etc...Vodacom speed is good but bit costly.

You have super markets like ShopRite in area called Matundo, beside that there is also VIP super market chain in various parts of City. Prices are on high side  due to  Dollar/Meticias fluctuation.

Tete has loads of coal reserves, there are resorts in an area called Moatize,  you have swimming pools , bars and clubs. I liked to go to Oasis Aldeamentos its owner is also from South Africa, you have good swimming pool and bar. It is also in Moatize. Apart from Oasis , you have Marlina Resort(normal charges) , Pedrera(normal charges) , Inter Tete(4 star) , VIP Executive(5 star) , Park Inn by Radissons (5 star) , SunDowners Bar  in City opposite to VIP Executive hotel (charges normal)  etc.

Beer is about 16-20 ZAR(rands), you have brands like Heineken, Carlsburg, local brands like 2/M, Manica, Laurentina Balck Beer etc.other international brands depending on availability at your resort.

About expense , yea there are some expense , transport is bit costly especially if you take taxi, public transport is always very cheap but very crowded. But if even you are getting about 500 - 1000 US Dollars its ok.....I was getting 1100 USD with food and accommodation and car......about safety , I didn't had any problem in roaming around,  but you have to keep your documents with you every time you go out. Sometimes police asks for your passport and work permit which they call "Dire Card", avoid using smartphone in crowded area.....if you need more guidance  contact me here:
