In the beginnings of bboying, before competitions, a bboy would secretly make a battle invitation to his rival, and they would agree to meet at a time and place. Then both of them would bring their entire crew, and meet at an underground party with one mission, to find each other in the cyphers... and battle!

Event Objective:

This event is a special fundraiser. All proceeds will go to the “ Project Pinoy B-boy Mission”

-A heart of a Hero mission to reach out and spread love and knowledge to the Bboys in the Philippines. For many, every day is a challenge for survival for those who have almost nothing but their love for breakin'.

The Mission:

Not many peoples are aware of the humble beginnings of hip hop back in the late 60's and early 70's in the Bronx and Brooklyn. At that time, the community was divided within itself and segregated from the rest of society. They were the forgotten, left to policing themselves which brought about a place of gangs, drugs, and ruins. There was a feeling of hopelessness in the people who had nothing to live for and nothing to do, until the famous blocks parties (i.e DJ Kool Herc) began... first starting with two turntables playing 'the break' as they called it, which would create an atmosphere where all peoples in the community could come together, and freely express themselves; of which included the old, the young, even the gangsters. Hip hop has in many ways been misused as a a commodity fetish to profit from negative connotations and associations of gangster appeals. However the true beginnings of hip hop were humble and freeing and uplifting, while being able to combat others with skills which eventually evolved into the four main elements (turntablism, Mcin', Graff, and ofcourse Bboyin' which is still persistant. and growing internationally even today.

The purpose of this event is to raise funds for the “Project Pinoy Bboy Mission”. Where volunteering world established bboys and volunteers will be able to go to the socio-economically abject parts of Philippines; to teach, train and coach the not so fortunate Bboys (whom already exist) the ways of the warrior bboy, and ways in which to live off of the dance. The goal after teaching the various bboys and crews is to hold a final event that will in hopes to promote a spark in for the different communities to come together as one and provide an oppurtunity for the bboys to earn money through battling. In the Phillipines breakin' is a form of release, yet has not been maintained, nor organized where it can be used to benefit the dancers. In igniting this spark, we hope the sharing of bboying history, knowledge, and culture of the dance will help to build a strong sense of growth and objective. In this light we hope to ignite a greater sense of support between segregated communities, and an appreciation to this liberating art form. Perhaps Bboys in the Phillipines can rely on this dance to give back to their families, and communities, and form and maintain an alliance.
