I am a Chinese

I am a Chinese.And I am a visa specialist.I was a mandarin teacher.But I don't do it now, because I want to have more time to learn.

Yes,I do visa for work,so I do business when I help people. But it doesn't mean I am the utilitarian people.I chose work related to foreigners just because I'd like to know more things from different parts of the world.I helped someone just because I want to help them. But why did some of them act like I want something from them?

And for the ones who always blame China or Chinese culture or Chinese people,I'd like to say no one is perfect. Why don't you just enjoy the beautiful parts?

Welcome to Shanghai, and hope you enjoy your journey here.

Well said Berry  !

People distrust visa agents in China for a very good reason.  Considering it an attack on all Chinese people or the culture is disingenuous.

When you ask people to pay for your (often illegal) service, you do want something from them.

Being a teacher is the best profession to learn whatever you want to learn consciously or subconsciously.
You learn from your students and you learn from your fellow teachers. And you learn from yourself as well. I don't think giving up as a teacher can give you more advantage in learning new things.
When you help someone without any financial exchanges, then that is called helping. However, when you accept some form of financial or material things in exchange of helping someone, that is not called helping at all.

I think you are a little bit extreme. All Chinese people and the culture is disingenuous? Why?I don't get it.You've done any research on that?

Second,I work for a company(which is really legal),not some agency, okay?I said I helped people, sometimes not about visa stuff. When people asked me things,I always tell the truth.

If you have been hurted by any Chinese,I would be sorry for you.I've been hurted by some of them, too. But I would never say"All Chinese people and the culture is disingenuous".Chinese is too much,I don't know that.

I like people in north China more.Maybe you can go there.Hope you can live a beautiful life here.

Hi Vikings,
Yes.You are absolutely right.

I was very willing to be a mandarin teacher. That is very interesting. But there happened something. And then I did this job.

And I don't agree with your explain about "help".The sellers in the supermarket are doing their job for payment .But when they do things for me I would also say "thank you".

When we helping people with visa, they sometimes ask things not about visa,we answer them, too. But that is beyond our responsibility.

I think you may a little misunderstand me.The visa company is not ran by me.One of my workmate worked here like a year and have never got extra money beyond basic salary. We are young people who just got out of universities. We are both the kind of person who want to do everything perfect.

I think I would prefer being treated as a person, but not a visa agency machine.

Well said Berry  !

Thank you very much.Like you are really enjoy your life here.
Haha..:D

I lived most of my life in North America and it's just a melting pot of cultures.
I can tell you first hand every culture has it's own ways. None are better than the other. They're just different. While the color white in many cultures represents purity in other cultures it represents death. The color red is often considered as a lucky color while in other countries it represents evil.

Berry may indeed work for a legitamit immigration company. There are many in Shenzhen alone. Some are owned by Hong Kong companies. These immigration companies usually are hired by the rich and elite, actors, artists and so forth so that they may be able to travel to other countries. As well they help foreigners gain entry into China.

Unlike many 'western" countyries China does not have a cap on visas and actually encourages foreigners to visit. China has no problem with foreign workers so long as they get the proper visa before entry.

Many foreigners enter the country, find work and then jump through the hoops to get their visas, legitamit companies are often hired to get visas for the foreign staff of other countries.

Picking on Berry's choices of employment to 'help" others or to gain "knowledge" of other cultures isn't helpful. What do we really know of Berry? Nothing.

Berry's defence of himself and of "his" people are one in the same to him. Irregardless how "we" non-Chinese feel about it or think about it. The Chinese think in terms of "we, us, our" and many "western" people think in terms of "I, me, mine" even if westerners are referring to our families and friends. It is often said to "western" men to beware of marrying Chinese women because it also means marrying her entire family. This is the way of the Chinese. Everyone is bound by family, blood, pride, tradition and motherland.

As foreigners we don't have to agree with it, nor do we have a right to disagree with the way things are done in China. This country and in particular Shenzhen is completely unregonizable from 30 years ago. What took North America and Europe to do in 70 years China did it in 20 years and yes it did have a model to work with and China still has a long way to go. But it's getting there and we foreigners are riding it's coat tails on the way up.

So be grateful to be here, smile and respect your hosts. Don't judege other unless ye be judged as well.

I gotta get back to work... K
