Hi,

For the ones living in New South Wales, what would you suggest to discover the region?

When you have friends or family visiting you, where do you go with them? What are the must-see places in New South Wales, the tourist sites?

How to visit the region in an original way? Any unusual or unknown place to recommend?

What would you suggest for a couple of days of for a week of holidays in New South Wales?

Thank you in advance for participating ;)

Julie

Hi Julie this post is a month old hope I'm not committing thread necromancy. Born here so i'll give the best ideas i can give.

Places to visit:
1. Blue Mountains - Australia has a low occurrence of snow the only places this really happens is in Blue Mountains so if you are a fan of winter sports this is your best bet to enjoy them. There are some ICe skating rinks open around NSW but they are few and far between seeing as Ice Skating isn't a primary source of sport for majority of Australians.

2. Hunter Valley vineyards - These wineries situated in Pokolbin are considered one of NSW top wineries, Home to the Hunter Valley Gardens a $70 mil project by the owner also has a chapel built for his daughter purely so she could get married in it. During christmas time from around Nov - jan the gardens hold A christmas lights display one of the biggest if not the biggest in Australia with approx 1 million christmas lights. Went to it last year has music timed lights various plants and terrain features lit up. Such as the waterfall.

Futhermore for The Wineries will every now and then hold a Lovedale long lunch it involves going around on a bus within the Lovedale/Pokolbin region and visiting all the different wineries. Some will have live bands some won't. Each bus will have a different set of wineries they visit so research ahead before committing to one.

3. Tamworth - Home of Country music in Australia and annually holds the Tamworth country music festival. Nearby is Scone the racing stud capital, Tamworth is one of the biggest places to find Stockhorse competitions such as Camp drafting.

4. Bathurst - Aka the hill this is the Daytona 500, or the indy grand prix of Australia about 30+ V8 super cars comprised of Nissans, Holdens, Fords and Volvo - This years one is 10-13 of October. If nothing else just go to listen to the roar of the engines the punel rubbing between cars.

5. Coffs Harbour - Home of the Big Banana, NSW biggest banana plantation, haven't been there in years however used to have a rail system that had a bunyip jump out of the water not sure if that's still there though.

6. Singleton Army Base - Infantry Museum: Singleton is the training baswe of the Australia rifleman, and as such it has its museum there. This place sells gift shop style items such as MRE's as the Aussie Rifleman uses, dud rounds converted into keyrings, history books on Australian involvement in wars etc. It's small but a good look into the history of Australians at war.

An activity if you are younger or older and looking for a night on the town a Pub Crawl is usually a traditional method of making an activity out of the standard go out and get drinks. Usually involves getting dressed up and having a photo taken at each of the pubs (bars) in the local area. Had some blokes in my local area dress up in zoot suits all different colours and visit every bar in town.
