I have ran into similar issues trying to find names of different animals in Vietnam. I've found that many people either don't know the correct names or maybe don't know the english words. I've asked my wife (who is very smart and a uni. grad) about different birds or lizards and she will just say its a bird or lizard (or blue bird or green bird)
