My husband and I are really keen to buy a Defender for Nairobi and safaris in EA. However, we have got mixed feedback from friends about the car. Does anyone own a Defender? What is your experience driving in Nairobi and outside? Yay or nay to a new Defender?

Nay. Being British, I'd love to say yes, but they have a reputation for breaking down. Not something you want if you are travelling to remote places.
Land cruiser, or Nissan Patrol are probably better, on the whole - almost as good off road and a whole lot more reliable. We have a Toyota Hilux. 100% reliable and easily goes wherever we want it to.

As a brand Landrover aren't known to be the most reliable. A shame really as they are excellent off toad.
