Nursing jobs in Denmark?

Hi.

Before you start planning you must make sure that you nurse training is recognized in Denmark, I think the nursing qualification is “higher” in Denmark than other countries, you might not be allowed to work as a nurse, but only as a helper.

And in regards to language, I think you will find it difficult to find a job if you do not speak Danish. Have a look at some job sites and see if they have jobs where Danish is not required. Some sites to mention is jobnet.dk and jobindex.dk both have English options.

I am not really sure, you can try contacting the department of education www.ug.dk or maybe contact a nursing school www.sygeplejerskeuddannelsen.dk both these sites have English options.
 
Maybe you can speak to the student advisor at you school to make recommendations for you.

I am a danish student in the nursing school (Metropol) in copenhagen (half way through my education).

At the moment the nursing jobs don't look too good in denmark. Since the financial crisis the hospitals have been firing far too many nurses so that it is even difficult for danish nurses to get a job. Also many new graduates have went on to taking a candidate degree in nursing because they simply can't get a job

But I hear that in Norway it is much easier to get a job as a nurse and the pay is even better!

Just a wild guess, but...If someone were coming to America from a foreign country....How much English and experience do you think THEY should have in order to get a job in health care over here?  I would imagine the same would go for someone going from America to a foreign country?

I think even if what Sarah says applies to your case, then I do think they are always on the look for people to be employed in the public healthcare system....such as elderly people's homes etc.

Yes you would probably be required to speak Danish, but I know many foreigners are employed in this sector since they need people.

You could make contacts to the employer behind a job post to ask if they accept your degree or perhaps if not then ask them who you might be able to contact for more information...

But yes I supose it's country specific so you would need to have your degree accepted or upgraded, have a permit or whatever before you can find jobs.

It will be really good idea to learn Danish, before you apply fr a job. I have seen few non Danish nurses, bcoz I think language is important. A good experience in intensive unit, will get you some extra points.

You cannot just work as a nurse in Denmark as it is a regulated profession. You can find out of the requirements here:

First of all, you have to meet the requirements in above link to be entitled to work in Denmark, but as I read the rules, you will not meet the requirements for a green card.

As far as i know, you need to get your Danish Authorization for you to practice Nursing in Denmark. Danish language is a must, since hospital charting should be done in Danish.  They offer free language studies in Denmark.

As a practicing registered nurse with 35 years and a nurse educator in America...I would expect the process of transferring your transcripts to an American school for continued nursing education, and working as a nurse in Denmark...or any other country, would be the same as  a foreign nurse coming over here.  We have specific criteria for becoming a nurse, and therefore would also have specific criteria for obtaining a job.  One would HAVE to speak English and would HAVE to pass the NCLEX and would HAVE to have their transcripts from an accredited school sent to both the Board of Nursing and the hospital you wanted to work for. 
     I can't imagine it being any different in other countries.  Not to say it CAN'T be done...but assume there will be some work to it.
