Online payments

Filamretire

Ran into an unsurprising issue today. One thing that American companies are extremely good at is taking your money, you can pay online easily. One might say that for any business, taking your money is the most important thing to be able to do. Enter PLDT. You can pay online. First attempt: Its online site crashed, 3nd attempt, also crashed. 3rd attempt, temporarily unavailable. They dont want my money apparently! Now I have to trek to the mall to pay them.

Secondly, one of the largest banks in the Philippines and most likely, all of them, you cannot get a downloaded excel or similar file of your statement that you can import into your budget app. Only text or paper statement. I expected this. Most likely can scan the text and output the data. Why can't the banks website do this?  They could but I guess there isnt much call for it.

30 years behind both internet and business models. Mind you I'm having problems with my super company in Australia for the last 6 weeks, given the names from the response emails seems all the fools are from India and read off a card as well as lose half my paperwork, resent 3 times now, asked for one person to deal with and unheeded. Tossers.

We use the banks here to shift funds, withdraw and shove it in the safe, pay cash for everything, last time over 2M pesos which gained a lot of questions, as posted on other threads, Tsismis or protocols? Regardless stupid as we have done 1/2M peso transfers for almost 5 years.

The old saying? "It's my money Ralph".

Websites here are hit and miss Filamretire, try again later or tomorrow or the next day. As we say welcome to the Philippines.

Cheers, Steve.

I have the same issue with PLDT. I've relegated myself to the fact that I'll have honey put my payment into her GCash acct and we'll pay that way. Of course there's a fee, albeit small to pay through others.

Lazada, sigh. I've had mostly excellent service. Even with returns and refunds. But not today. sigh. I ordered some cement sealer/waterproofing for our new property wall and sitting area porch in front of our little sari sari store. I had tried to purchase locally but I could save a ton buying 16L pails vs 12-16 one gal cans. And well use the pails. They didn't have the brand I wanted, but I found an alternative. Every listing shows a NOT! Bright effing white! I absolutely didn't want white. I try to get a refund and they say no, too late. You got 5 days ago. Yea I ordered in advance so I would have it when ready!  Oh well, I guess we can use it out back. ugh.

Have you considered using an international bank like HSBC? My guess is that their IT systems have more functionality than the local banks. Of course they have fewer branches but these days who needs to go into a bricks and mortar building. Bank cards can be used at most ATMs.

For Brits relocating to Phils with an HSBC account you can seemlessly transfer to an International account. I used to have an account at the HSBC Enterprise centre in Makati a few years back and opening it was a doddle. Just needed my UK passport.

You thought Indian call centers were bad Steve.. 1f644.svg

You know worse Lotus Eater?

I'm dealing with an Australian company via email in regards to my Superannuation and not a call centre, of the 9 odd emails I have sent all have been answered by dudes with Indian names.

I gave up calling on the phone internationally after the 4th attempt, after 2/3 minutes chatting/explaining what I want the call drops out, start again.

Cheers, Steve.

Tell me about it.

Dare I speak for Bob but I think he would rather visit the Bureau of Immigration in Manila than speak with an Indian call centre. 🤣

That's a big call Lotus, both are a pain in the ass. In Oz my telco call centre was in the Philippines and for 20 years never had a problem. Perhaps decent training as well as English ability?

We have a mate in Manila that is back and forward to Mexico training the workers in many call centres there. Back in the Philippines he deals with complaints/problems from westerners,,,,,, perhaps we should send him to India? Keep Bob happy?

Back on topic? All we pay online is Cignal tv and that is G-cash, Internet G-cash, phone top ups G-cash my lotto in Oz and that is by debit card every 10 weeks. Every thing else is Jonny Cash.

Bank transfers I don't count.

Cheers, Steve.

It's amazing . . . . when talking to a call center and they realize that you realize they don't know what they are talking about and then for some strange reason you lose connection.

Or if they are successful handling your problem, you get a questionnaire to rate your experience, but if they were not successful you don't get a questionnaire.

When talking to an Indian call center I can smell the curry and other spices over the phone and it lingers for weeks.

You got that right Lotus Eater . . . . The only thing worse is getting a root canal by an Indian Dentist.

@Lotus Eater In the US, I like Indian call centers, they speak better English than Americans with a heavy accent, and seem educated as to how to resolve a problem, and not just use cue cards. Also liked Philippine call centers as well, they are the best!
