Formalities to bring your pet in Senegal

Post new topic

Julien

Hi all,

What are the formalities and paperwork required to bring your pet in Senegal?

How long do formalities & paperwork usually take in Senegal?

What are the relevant authorities to contact?

Which vaccines are compulsory? Do your pets have to go in quarantine at their arrival in Senegal?

Which advice would you give to the ones who would like to move with a dog, a cat or any other pet?

Thanks in advance for participating :)

I am interested in bringing two dogs and a parrot to Senegal for 2 years. They all originate in USA and would return to USA. Have you received any information, Julien? My husband may be accepting a two year posting in Dakar and whether or not I go depends of how readily I can bring out pets. Thanks, Jo Ann

Julien,

I don't know if you still need information, but I brought my cat with me to Senegal this past March. She needed a 3yr rabies shot, a veterinarian certificate stating that she is healthy and can travel internationally (this requires an exam). I had absolutely no problem once I arrived in Senegal and if you ask the guys who are putting the luggage on the conveyer to search for and bring your animal to you immediately, they will.

Try to bring or send a barrel of food for your animal, as food is expensive here and it is not as good as the states.

Good luck.
